How Prepared Are You?
Is the proper framework in place, foundations solid and is there ample room for growth?
If you answered yes, then I applaud you, and would also like to know your secret. However, if you are like me, then you may be a little behind the eight ball, and still finding your way.
The good news is, its never too late to start and once you have configured some good ‘success loops’, you are well on track to a smooth and fulfilling life.
How Do I Know?
As a self-confessed late bloomer, I spent most of my youth and twenties, appeasing others and not putting much thought into what I wanted out of life. Everyone else knew best. It wasn’t until my early 30s, when I found a deep dissatisfaction within, that I finally started taking charge of my own life. The collateral damage was the usual – divorce, financial disarray, upheaval from friends, and a complete 180 degree turn in my life.
The slate had been cleared, but it also meant starting from scratch.
At 37 I began training. At 39 I represented Australia at the ITU World Triathlon Championships, Auckland. Carmen Low
Some 10 years later, and I am proud to say, my foundations are solid and in line with who I am, what I believe in, and the lifestyle I want to live. A long way from where I was 10 years ago. There are still some areas which need some work, and where new ‘success loops’ need to be formed. However, I take comfort in reflecting on how far I have come and remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Carmen’s Top Tips to a Successful Life
Get Clear– about what you really want out of life. Discover what is important to you. What do you love? What kind of lifestyle do you wish to lead? What are your long-term goals?
Be Real– with where you are currently. Assess, without judgement, the reality of your life. Are you doing what you love? Are you living the lifestyle you wish to lead? Are you on track and in line to achieving those long-term goals? and If not, how far off are you really?
Set your Course– point yourself in the right direction, for you. Realign with what you want out of life.
Make a Plan– to get to your destination. Start moving toward your long-term successful life. Set some long-term, then short-term goals. Start putting thoughts and words into action.
Get Familiar– with your new course of direction. Start getting comfortable with a new mindset, and a new perspective. Look out for any old habits creeping in, because they will, and allow yourself time to adjust.
Re-assess – at regular intervals. At least yearly, check in to see your progress. Make adjustments where necessary, or if you feel you are way off track, rinse and repeat.
Most of us are not geared towards long-term comfort and success. We get lost in the short term, and put off til later what we really desire. The problem isn’t the putting off, it is the forgetting to come back.
I am here to remind you its never too late to put yourself back on track. Yes, it will be challenging. Yes, it may be uncomfortable. And yes, it will be the best thing you ever did.
